Peridot and Diamond Earrings

I’m finally able to share these custom peridot and diamond earrings, as they have now been received by their new owner. I started making these what feels like a lifetime ago now, just after the first lockdown, then the entire jewellery trade pretty much shut down overnight!

Designed collaboratively with my lovely boyfriend as a 70th birthday present for his mum, they started life as a length of eco-silver wire, some wax carved settings and a bit of gold tubing. Peridot is her birthstone, and we opted for pear shape gemstones, despite the fact I’ve never set this shape of stone before. I do like a challenge!

After the various bits had been soldered together, I added a hammered texture to the silver, which catches the light beautifully, but is annoyingly difficult to photograph. Setting the stones took quite some time, but I’m so pleased with how they turned out. The setting course I attended what seems like forever ago now was definitely helpful!

The birthday girl was really happy with them, which is always the most important thing. I really like this design and kind of want to make some for myself now!

I took a little video under my bright kitchen spotlights to show the sparkle of the textured metal and the little lab-grown diamonds.

I’m really hoping to be able to do more custom work next year, so if you have an idea of something you’d like made in metal, do let me know!
